FREDERIC (Tenor or light baritone, age 18-30)
He is young, manly, genuine and an innocent. Frederic is funny. He has
great verve and energy, is out-going unaffected, and honest.
Unself-conscious sex appeal is essential. Some dancing.
MABEL (Soprano, 18 - 30)
Very much a young woman of the 19th century. An out-front, uncovered,
natural, expressive voice with excellent, unaffected diction is
essential.
PIRATE KING (Baritone to Bass Baritone, 30 - 60s) A whole-hearted romantic. He's the King, no doubt, because it's his ship.
MAJOR-GENERAL (Light Baritone, Must be able to sing Patter Songs,
40s-60s)
Quirky, warm, and good-humored. Comic acting essential.
RUTH (Mezzo-Contralto, 30s-60s)
A proper English nanny. She has raised her young charge, Frederic, to be
a polite, honorable, and respectable gentleman. Strong acting
KATE (Mezzo-Soprano, age 18-40)
Mabel's sister, proper, pleasant, bright. Dancing Essential
EDITH (Mezzo-Soprano, age 18-40)
Another sister, proper, young, snappy. Dancing Essential
ISABEL (Mezzo-Soprano, age 18-40)
Another sister, like the others Dancing Essential
SAMUEL (Baritone/Tenor Acceptable).
King's right-hand man, not awfully bright. Dancing Essential THE SERGEANT (Baritone, 30-60)
Stolid, strong and not too smart, police captain, stiff yet agile.
Acting and some dancing
DAUGHTERS (15-60)
The more individual and vivid each daughter is the better. Big,legitimate voices. Dancing required.
PIRATES and POLICE (15-60) must be able to sing and dance.
