PPTOPA

5 Year Business Plan

Mission Statement:

To provide a theatre and theatrical outlet for the enhancement of Performing Arts for the South Florida community.

Executive Summary:

The Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts (PPTOPA) states proudly that "We are performing for one of the largest and fastest growing communities in the United States". Growth includes some of the finest community planning in the United States. The community leaders have developed a beautiful environment with lush well groomed trees, hedges, gardens and safe streets for families. Parks abound throughout various neighborhoods providing a variety of sports venues from roller hockey, soccer, football, and a championship all girl softball team.

PPTOPA along with community and cultural leaders, now seek to create a similar environment for the Performing Arts.  It is the combined commitment to develop a theatre that will allow the coming together of various age groups working to put on performances of the Arts that have a binding effect on the community.  Pembroke Pines has done a phenomenal job in creating sports opportunities for all levels of age groups.  The Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts will use this same commitment to excellence in the development of theatrical events and the theatre itself.  PPTOPA will consistently put on excellent performances and stimulating social events for the families of our community. In order to do this; we are committed to bring to our community a theatre with the same quality of planning, design, and functionality for the Arts, as our Parks are to athletes. This theatre will be designed to accommodate all age groups and all appropriate aspects of the liberal Arts from solo artist and dance to lavish theatrical musicals.

Presently PPTOPA is using the Walter C. Young Resource Center’s, Jim Davidson Theatre and The River of Grass ArtsPark, Mayor Susan B. Katz Memorial Auditorium; these facilities although functional, has severe limitations that distract from the performance and other problems that does not make it cost effective to service the community in the area of performing Arts. These limitations affect the community’s interest in our theatrical events, because of location, seating comfort and design to enhance the performance.

The Pembroke Pines community is made from the finest families in South Florida, representing the highest standards of morals, decency and economic quality. Because of this, no expense was spared in developing our Parks for our community’s recreational needs. This high standard of quality is exactly what is needed for the community to overwhelming responds to a theatre of the Performing Arts. Only through participation of private and public contributions does PPTOPA believe it can receive the quality response to its financial needs to create such a theatre.

The Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts is seeking Corporate sponsors through fund raising and grant programs that find responding to our community needs specifically in the Arts, a significantly rewarding one.

Planning and Development:

Phase I

PPTOPA plans four (4) shows for the last 2005-2006 Season at the above mentioned facilities. Our goal is to double that number with the addition of a smaller, dedicated, facility (3000sq.ft.-4000sq.ft.) to feature theatre for children, small cast musicals and non-musicals, children’s theatre productions, original works and non-traditional performing arts.  This facility will also be used to expand the PPTOPA, Jr. Children’s Theatre Program into a Theatre Conservatory; with programs for children ages 5-8, 9-12 and 13-17; ranging from acting, musical theatre, film and television and dance.

Once a facility is secured an assessment will be performed to determine the condition verses application of use of the facility.  Offices, music, voice, theatre and dance rooms, a theatre, seating, lighting sound, backstage and storage placement will need to be ascertained.  Immediate work will commence to prepare the facility for occupancy and use.  PPTOPA President, since organizations inception in 1993 and over 20 year theatre veteran, James Cichewicz will be the facility’s Executive Director.

Our funding goal for Phase I is approximately $25,000.  All aspects of the project will not need to be completed before the facility opens.

To assist in the acquisition of these funds, PPTOPA will seek out corporate sponsorships as well as public and private grants. A large enough contribution will allow such corporate sponsors to headline all publications for the show inclusive of all press releases.

Phase II

PPTOPA seeks through community leaders, elected officials and interested local developers, an appropriate property site to construct a multifunctional community theatre independent of any school.

This requires PPTOPA to create a development planning board by the fourth quarter of 2005. Members of this board will be limited to six members, made up of community and cultural leaders of the Performing Arts. This board will be chaired by Keith Kramer, Vice President of PPTOPA.

Planning Board:

Area of responsibilities

Develop a wish list on possible properties that maybe available, or "we" wish to be available.

Set a budget for the purchase of such sites.

Negotiate with the City any zoning variance, developer collaboration co-existence tax breaks and any all possible grants or city funding available to PPTOPA.

Develop fund and grant raising criteria not only for the purchase of the land, but for building construction.

Set the criteria needed for building structure, and hire architects to design such structure.

Once this foundation is set and the Chairman of the Board has a firm direction on the amount of funding is required, then PPTOPA moves to Phase III.

Phase III

Raising the money to build the theatre

At this point, PPTOPA is projected to have raised enough money to secure a full time experienced Grant writer to procure the necessary funds with the collaboration of the President of PPTOPA and the Planning and Development board. This Grant writer/Fund raiser must have a proven track record, and is approved by the President of PPTOPA and the Chairman of the Planning and Development Committee.

During this phase, the artist rendering of the structure would be completed and approved by The Board of Directors. All collateral materials for fund raising will be based on what this structure means to the community such as:

Pembroke Pines’ first Theatre of the Performing Arts.

Versatility of design to be multifunction for a number of community events.

To be self supporting through rental, and Production revenue.

Designed to bring in top artist to performers as an adjunct to the Broward Center, Kravis Center and Jackie Gleason Theatre.

Phase IV

Contribution

During this phase, PPTOPA will create the position of "Project Director". This position requires the following abilities:

Proven managerial abilities

Record of accomplishment negotiating construction contracts.

Ability to maintain budgetary requirements.

Proven ability to maintain a construction time table

The Chairman of the Planning and Development board will conduct the interviews on qualified applicants. Recommendations on these applicants will be submitted to the board of Directors for approval.

Summation:

The four (4) Phases of Planning and Development is the backbone target for the PPTOPA goal as summarized in our "Mission Statement". The timetable set-forth to realize this goal is approximately five (5) years start to finish.
