Kaufman and Hart's comedy of insults about an eccentric radio publicist-turned uninvited houseguest is a comic banquet of timeless appeal. The Stanleys once led a nice, peaceful life in their small Ohio town until they invite touring radio celebrity, Sheridan Whiteside, for dinner. But the honored guest not only comes to dinner, he is forced to stay after a slip on their icy doorstep results in a hip fracture. A tumultuous six weeks of confinement follows as the wheelchair-bound Whiteside turns domestic tranquility upside down and the Stanley household into a madhouse. An entourage of zany visitors and exotic gifts from foreign lands - from choirboys to penguins - all add to this most masterful collection of uproarious put-downs ever assembled under one roof.
